A whole year of celebratory events for SMC kicked off in style on Friday 2nd February with seventy nine members, past and present, attending our 60th Birthday Bash. The club, then known as the Solihull YHA Group, held its very first committee meeting on 2nd February 1958. This party was a perfect start to a whole range of planned adventures and social events to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee.

The celebrations were marked by an extra special 60th Birthday cake, made by club member Helen Every. It was a magnificent affair. Not only was there a choice of lemon sponge, fruit cake or chocolate cake, all of which were completely delicious, but Helen had created our lovely hut complete with sheep, in icing! Helen, we think the British Bake Off beckons!

Thanks goes to all the SMC team who helped in the organisation of this event and an even bigger thank you to everyone who attended the party and helped kick start a year of great Diamond Jubilee events for the Club. Also, Many thanks to Allan Sanders for the great pictures below!
